In Phase 1, basic eligibility conditions will be assessed (place of residence, place of study, level of study, English language proficiency). If selected, the applicants will be invited to provide evidence for the information stated in the form.

Additionally, if the applicant meets the eligibility requirements, the following will be scored:

The preferred study programmes listed above are defined based on the potential interest and contribution of the respective disciplines to developing innovative solutions in the field of urban mobility. However, applicants from other educational backgrounds (study programmes) can also apply, with a strong justification of interest and potential contribution has to be indicated in the application form.

A total of 2 points can be achieved in the Phase 1 evaluation process. A ranking list will be created. Top 50 applicants will be invited to Phase 2. In case of a tie, an applicant with a higher GPA will be taken into consideration.

Phase 2 (Apr 25 – May 15)

At least 50 eligible participants selected in Phase 1 will be invited to Phase 2.

In Phase 2 of the application process, you will be required to write and submit a 1,000 to 1,200-word essay on one of five topics related to the summer school program.

The essay should:

  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of the selected topic.
  • Describe personal experiences and interests related to the topic.
  • Include a self-assessment of greatest potential contribution to addressing sustainable mobility challenges after completing your studies, considering your educational background, knowledge, and skills.

This essay will help us assess students' understanding of the subject and your motivation for participating in the program.

Only the selected and invited applicants from Phase 1 will receive further instructions and links needed to submit the essay.

The object of the evaluation in Phase 2 is the submitted essay. The following aspects addressed by the essay are evaluated:

  • Understanding of the selected topic
  • Topic-related experience
  • Potential professional contribution

Information provided in the application form does not demonstrate sufficient level of experience, motivation and interest for the topic and participation in the ChargeUp Summer School.

Information provided in the application form demonstrates a high level of experience, motivation and interest for the urban mobility topic and participation in the ChargeUp Summer School and provides clear evidence that such interest and motivation exist.

Based on the total points achieved, a ranking list of assessed applications will be created. The top 36 students will be invited to participate in the ChargeUp Summer School (31 free of charge, 5 with a participation fee of 200 euro).

In the event of a tie, the final selection will be made to ensure the following key objectives:           

  • gender balance,
  • highest possible level of interdisciplinarity within student teams,
  • highly motivated and dedicated group of students.

Due to time constraints, no details on the evaluation results other than the total number of points achieved will be communicated to the applicants.
